On this episode of Millennial Debt Domination, Katie discusses the impact mental health issues have on finances.
The month of May highlights Mental Health Awareness. Mental Health Awareness is the ongoing effort to reduce the stigma around mental illness and mental health conditions by sharing your personal experience. Finances not only have a big impact on your mental health, but having mental health issues can also impact your finances. The decline in your mental health makes it harder to manage money. You may find it more difficult to concentrate or lack the motivation to pay your bills on time. You could also lack the confidence in your career which could lead to taking time off work or loosing your job entirely which would leave you with no income. Today I’ll be joined by Amy Ryan who is a clinical social worker and therapist. Amy counsels many clients with mental health issues who are in turn struggling with their finances. Katie and Amy discuss feelings associated with money, coping mechanisms used for depression, how having mental health problems affects your ability to save money, and much more.
